First of all, we are far from security experts. But there are certain security requirements you must meet to be safe. Especially when it comes to making WiFi money and running a business from your machine. Imagine making a critical mistake and losing everything. There is always a chance that something went wrong or you clicked on a link you should not. Maybe you didn’t… But someone else who shares the same machine as you might. In each case, you must ensure your operations are lean and running smoothly.
If you are into crypto you should already know how things are working out. Hardware wallets such as the one you can find on our approved product list. Next step? Take all the funds of the exchanges - you don’t want to have your assets on any CEX when FTX v2 happens. Not turning into a crypto article - just a friendly reminder. The idea here is not to go into too much details and turn this into an article that only a few of our readers will be able to understand. We are trying to have a solid balance between safety and a general approach that the majority will understand. But at the same time enough so that in case you mess up or click on the wrong link your digital assets or business won't be at risk.
Why Security Matters
If you have ever been hacked or been a victim of a massive data breach. You already know what kind of pain that is. Change all the passwords, configure 2FA (this is a must at this point - no SMS option), call the bank, and explain to your high school friend why she received a random naked picture inviting her over to watch Netflix. No doubt there are many cases and variations of this. Now add on top of this running your own WiFi money business and risking all the reputation with your clients, cash flow problems, and other specifics that are tied to running your business. No doubt having a safe and secure business is a must. In case you are yet to start your WiFi money this is the perfect opportunity to set a strong foundation. Meaning you will most likely never have to worry about what might happen in the future.
If you are already running a WiFi business but not yet paying attention to details this should be your wake-up call. Better said you should start considering what we are about to cover as soon as possible. It’s worth mentioning we are not planning to go full security experts here. Recommending operating systems (OS) such as Qubes, Whonix, or Tails. All of them are amazing operating systems. But often being total overkill for the average. Especially taking into consideration that they do have some limited features majority will not be able to bypass. In case security is one of your primary concerns and you don’t want anyone having any of your digital footprints this is the route to go. The idea of the article is not to get into the full online anonymous route either. Instead, provide readers with general knowledge and a few things to think about.
Your Machine
You will often see us rant about this on our Twitter profile. When it comes to your machine in most cases you will not need a brand new one to have your operations run smoothly. Let’s take for example someone that is doing contract stacking and creating their ultimate outreach system. In what sense do you need the newest MacBook to pull it off? We can’t find a reason either. If you can afford it, go for it. But in case you are tight on your budget do yourself a favor and unfollow everyone that is saying you must have a brand-new machine to make WiFi money. You don’t in any sense. When we are discussing resource-heavy activities such as video editing and heavy coding that is where having a new machine (better said strong) is a must.
One of our favorite investments in 2023 was a cheap ThinkPad T480 we bought during our stay in Europe. We are talking here about a 250$ laptop. Without a doubt, we will be able to run it for degen activities for at least a few more years. Especially if you set up a Linux-based distro to run as the primary OS. Why are we mentioning our investment? We won’t use it as a money-making machine. However, we could argue that the same machine could serve as a main platform to make money - if you are tight on budget. Will it be easier to do certain tasks with the new machine? Yes. Can those same tasks be done a little slower with older machines? Most likely. Don’t fall for the trap that you need the newest machine to make WiFi money. You don’t need it, it’s not a good enough excuse not to start. Suggestions? If you are tight on budget look for older ThinkPads. They are workhorses and will last years if you take good care of them.
Another option you could do is to get a hands-on cloud-based machine. Prices have been falling over the years and you can get yourself a decent working machine for only 10$ per month. There are a few negative aspects (can’t be fully degen when using one) so it’s important to understand what you are getting yourself into - read the agreement you are accepting. Some will allow you to run degen activities straight from their cloud machine. While others won’t allow you to do so. Our advice here is to go for the ones that will let you do it. In that case, it will allow you to use your personal machine for business. While separating degen activities on a cloud-based machine. You don’t want to run WiFi money operations from “rented” machines in any way.
VPN
This is not strictly something that will keep your WiFi money-making machine safe. But it will help you maintain anonymity in the sense. Making it harder for others to keep track of you. Hiding your IP is important in case you are planning to do some activities that are not that legal. We know quite a few individuals running VPN and VM combo getting all their stuff for free. Not our choice. But something you could think to pull off when you incorporate a VPN into your system. VPNs are one of those cheap investments with huge a ROI. Stick to a proven VPN such as Mullvad. Stay away from those guru promoted YouTube VPNs. Everyone is promoting them because they got a huge affiliate % on those - not because they are good products.
VPN should not be mixed up with the Proxies. They are two different things. Both of them do keep your IP hidden - but the use case is different. Proxies are great when it comes to running multiple accounts similar to what we have described in our AI-generated LinkedIn accounts guide. It serves as a bridge between you and the content you want to reach. Making it easier for you to run multiple accounts or switch between IPs fast. Exactly what you will need when scrapping websites with Python. VPN is better when you want your stuff encrypted. Bypassing site restrictions make it easier and cheaper to use in the long term. Both should have use cases in your arsenal - when it comes to anonymity and safety. A good VPN will be more than enough for a big majority.
Degen Activities
So far we have mentioned degen activities a few times in our article. What do those degen activities even mean? Torrenting, clicking random links, and browsing Asian sites full of shady alpha. All of them without a doubt should be considered degen activities. When it comes to degen activities it’s hard to stay away from them in case you have been doing them. Especially if you have been doing them for a long time. Tell someone who has been doing it since the early 2000s to stop. Good luck with that. Not suggesting anyone stop doing it - your choice. But in each case, you should be approaching it smartly. Readers who are experienced without a doubt already know it’s not that hard to stay safe if you know what you are doing. Consider that all of us have occasional slip-ups. Browsing Reddit and noticing an interesting link worth clicking? That could potentially cause you harm. Not to mention .exe files for Windows users or anything similar such as downloading cracked software or video games and running them on the same machine as your business. These are the league of their own.
Why worry about anything when you could just set up a Virtual Machine? The best thing about is that it comes free of charge. Allowing you to run everything without even thinking about what you are doing. The most important thing you have to realize in order to run successfully WiFi money is that you can’t mix business and pleasure. Without a doubt, you can use different machines. For those who have been longer in this space you already know how often exploits, leaks, and all other bad stuff happen - quite often. Recently we posted on our Twitter site called nulled.to which you can use as a sort of reference what those breaches, hacks, and “hacked data” on the internet look like. Trust us you don’t want your name or your client’s name to be on one of those lists.
Virtual Machines
One of the best things you could do for yourself is set up a “Virtual Machine” using tools such as VM Player or VirtualBox. They don’t require you to be a rocket scientist to pull it off. However, at the same time, they will provide you with necessary safety - not always but in 80% of cases. Which OS to choose? Completely up to you and your machine's capabilities. Plus take into consideration how you plan to separate your activities. In case you are planning to go full degen on your Virtual Machine (what we are suggesting) go with any Linux distro. They are great since they are light and all the applications you will need to do your degen activities are available on those. Linux is not what it used to be 10 years ago.
If you have different plans or need specific applications that are not available on Linux. You can boot up Windows machines without any problems. The only thing to pay attention to when running the Windows platform is that it requires more resources than running Linux. Something you will have to find out along the way. When it comes to playing around with various Linux distros sites such as DistroWatch are great starting points. Laptops such as the one we have recommended above (ThinkPad T480) can even run macOS. Making it extremely hard to beat 250$ laptops running macOS fluently. Another excuse less not to start WiFi money since you won’t have a “machine excuse”.
Basics You Need In Place
The whole article could be put into the idea behind separating money-making activities from degen activities using Virtual Machines. Keeping yourself safe, your business safe and your client’s information safe. This is what this article is all about. Setting up Virtual Machines and creating “separate systems” can be complex when doing it for the first time. But over time, the entire setup of getting additional Virtual Machines up and running can be completed in less than 1 hour. Including the installation of additional programs to run your operations. If you are someone that got problems with concentration and distraction or if you young reader who has to focus on more important things such as college and internships. There is also a use case for running additional machines since you will not have access to anything. Just an idea to think about.
To summarize key points:
Separate business from pleasure
The easiest way to do so is by running Virtual Machines
Quality VPN is a must in certain situations - Degen ones
250$ laptop will allow you to pull all off this - no excuses
