I'm curious how you actually deal with #25? There's no way people are not pushing you on this. Work is usually the first thing people ask about, and vagueness only breeds more investigation.
Internet marketing is the right answer. no matter what you actually do. If you are really dealing with someone who wants to know everything (you should be able to brush them off), if not… affiliate marketing (most people don't know what it is).
That brushing off is the part I was asking about. Could be cultural but it's very hard to do without making it a scene. Changing topics or remaining unspecific would just lead to more questions and attention to it.
What you are saying makes complete sense. What this post misses is that you should not even mention to others that you are running a business on the side. It is something you don't talk to anyone except the closest people that you can trust. Not friends.
Better said, you should aim not to find yourself in a position where you even have to explain what you do in the first place. If really pushed forward and can't come up with a decent excuse - the affiliate marketing usually does the trick.
I appreciate the responses. I do guess it's a cultural difference, I live in a far more nosey society and talking about one's money isn't even considered taboo anymore, let alone a job. It would just revert to "affiliate marketing about what?" and so on...
The idea of not talking about what you do and keeping money a secret resonates with me. It could be worthwhile delving more into that topic as a standalone.
