Hello ladies, gents, cartoon animals, and others.
Another article on breaking into tech sales. In case you are looking for the other ones in the series. We recommend checking out the following article where you will find a complete list.
Main idea behind the article?
Getting yourself a “pitch” script that you will run back on the Hiring Manager.
When it comes to tech sales and breaking into the field. Sooner or later you will have to pitch companies product directly to the hiring manager. Roleplay in the sense that you will have to “pitch the product”.
How about we reverse-engineer the *secret* behind and impress your hiring manager?
Game Plan
As mentioned in the introduction the idea behind this is to gather yourself a script that you are going to (re)use during your interview.
Keep in mind you will not be doing this for every interview.
Instead, once your interview process reaches the demo/pitch part, you should definitely use it to your advantage. The good thing about it?
If the company you are trying to break into is serious enough. The whole process of getting the sales rep to run you through should be painless.
It’s a clear indicator of how the company is running things. You don’t want the sales rep to put you on the 14-day waiting period.
What you will be looking for…
So how does the method look in practice?
The steps are as follows:
Go to the company website you are interviewing with
Sign up for a demo
Wait for a sales rep to contact you
Jump on the call and record it
Analyze the recording and create your pitch based on it
Run the same discovery/questions on the interview call with HM
Could it be easier?
The sales rep itself gave you a blueprint of how the company sells the product. Giving you leverage when it comes to script and questions you can use on your hiring manager.
“But how can I show my face when I am already in the interview process.”
Be smart about it or better said don’t overthink it. Bring someone else to the demo. Sister, brother, or your partner. It doesn’t matter.
If you have to give them the answer (which could be required on the website) - your answer is family business.
In most cases, it should work. It’s on you to do everything you can to get a sales rep to run you through the demo and obtain a recording of the same → crucial part. You need that recording to prepare yourself based on it.
Last Step?
Things should be straightforward at this point. The idea behind this is that you have something that has been “approved” directly by the company you are interviewing with. Better said you will be given a set of questions to use.
Keep in mind you don’t want to copy the complete call you had. Instead, use the main idea that the sales rep runs through and tailor it to your needs. The key here is to create a mock script that is based on the given info.
In the end? Can’t get much better than this. Now practice the delivery and pitching with your new script.
Good luck anon you got this.
